News From NTT DoCoMo Japan's

Berita Gadget - NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest cell phone carrier will soon launch an app store for its handsets, its President Ryuji Yamada said Wednesday (free registration necessary). NTT designs to make apps available to all handsets able to accessing its i-mode information service. Yamada added that smartphones using the store would benefit from a more open app platform.

DoCoMo will permit third-party developers build apps for the handsets, but will check them over to make definite they do not affect "public order or decency." Current i-mode content providers are charged nine percent of their revenues, but the commission for the new app store will be higher, said him.



The portal would help the company cease or slow its decreasing market share, as competitor Softbank, the sole provider of Apple's iPhone, is growing faster in subscriber numbers owing primarily to the app-centric American hardware. NTT DoCoMo does offer Android handsets, but its 50 million i-mode handset subscribers are the massive majority of its business and use only basic devices.

Raises Early Termination Fee on Smartphones By AT&T

Berita Gadget - AT&T Inc. announced today that its early termination fees for new and renewing smartphone and netbook customers will jump from $175 to $325 on June 1, following similar actions by other carriers.In an open letter to customers, AT&T also said that it will drop the early termination fees for new and renewing customers who use basic and fast messaging rings by $25 to $150 on that date.

Spokesman refused to comment beyond the contents of the letter, which said the early termination fees make it feasible for AT&T to offer industry-leading rings below their full retail prices in exchange for a two-year service dedication. For example, a $199 Apple iPhone would cost $599 without a contract. AT&T has said that iPhone customers pay on average over $90 in service fees each month.

Some bloggers have theorized that AT&T's increase in its smartphone early termination fees is timed to go in to effect prior to Apple's announcement of a next-generation iPhone, and some are speculating that the fees are going up because AT&T could be losing its exclusive right to sell the iPhone in the U.S. within the next year, after years of complaints from users about the AT&T network.

Presumably, higher fees would discourage AT&T iPhone customers from switching to another wireless service if other carriers are allowed to start offering the iPhone. AT&T would not comment on that theory.

AT&T said the new early termination fees, which won't apply to current customers unless they renew after June 1, will decline by $10 a month over the life of a two-year contract for smartphone users & by $4 a month for users of basic & fast messaging rings.

Jeff Kagan, an independent telecommunications analyst, said carriers are fundamentally offering consumers subsidies or loans when they sell rings at reduced prices to customers who sign long-term service contracts. They noted that early termination fees & subsidies are mostly U.S. traditions.

"Phones are expensive," Kagan said. "In lots of countries without early termination fees, the customers are necessary to pay the full $500 or more for a phone. In the United States, [carriers] started subsidizing & continue doing it today. When a carrier helps a customer buy a phone by giving them a loan of sorts, the customer agrees to repay that loan" -- fundamentally through the early termination fee.

Kagan pointed out that when a customer of any type defaults on any kind of loan, there is a penalty involved. "The reason for the ETF is to protect the carriers from losing funds when they give the customer a loan of sorts," they said.

Early termination fees have been controversial. They have been the subject of lawsuits by customers, & in January the Federal Communications Commission launched an inquiry in to excessively high termination fees.

Verizon Wireless doubled its early termination fee on "advanced devices," chiefly smartphones, to $350 last November. & in January, Google Inc. & T-Mobile USA jointly imposed an early termination fee of $550 on the Nexus One smartphone. In response to criticism, Google lowered its part of the Nexus One fee from $350 to $150 in February. Verizon responded to concerns from the FCC by reducing the number of advanced devices affected by its higher early termination fee.

Unboxing the MSI Wind U135 - Video

The MSI Wind U135 has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixels, 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB of RAM, 250 GB hard drive. It runs Windows 7 Starter Edition and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1. The netbook was launched a few months ago, but the people of MSI just sent me a review, so I figured he had put a little unboxing video.



In general I like the design. The keyboard has an island-style design, with flat keys and the spaces between them. The touchpad is quite large, even though just a single button to the left and right click. And the lid has a nice design texture that appears to be fairly resistant to fingerprints and smudges. I'm not a big fan of glossy displays, the wind U135 has, but is more common to find bright screen netbooks out.

iPhone OS 4.0 dan Empat Perubahan Utamanya.

Berita Gadget - CEO Apple Steve Jobs mengumumkan software terbaru iPhone OS 4.0 yang dilengkapi fitur-fitur terbaru. Setidaknya ada empat perubahan utama yang ditambahkan dalam software terbaru tersebut belum termasuk fitur-fitur baru yang meningkatkan kenyamanan menggunakan iPhone.

Pertama, iPhone 4.0 bisa multitasking atau menjalankan lebih dari satu aplikasi dalam waktu bersamaan. Fitur ini lama dinantikan para pengguna iPhone karena dengan kemampuan tersebut, pengguna bisa bolak-balik mengakses internet sambil mendengarkan musik tanpa putus atau mengecek email saat menelepon.



Kedua, ada akses ke iBookstore dan aplikasi iBooks untuk mengakses e-book dari layanan terbaru Apple. Layanan ini sebelumnya hanya tersedia di iPad.



Ketiga, folder aplikasi. Dengan fitur ini pengguna iPhone bisa mengatur data dari masing-masing aplikasi ke dalam folder berbeda sehingga lebih rapi.

Keempat, layanan iklan mobile bernama iAd yang memungkinkan untuk menyisipkan iklan dalam aplikasi. Para pnegembang kini punya pilihan mendapat keuntungan dari aplikasi gratis dengan menambahkan iklan dan keuntungan akan dibagi dengan pola bagi hasil dengan Apple.



iPhone 4.0 akan tersedia mulai musim panas tahun ini atau sekitar Juni 2010 pada produk baru Apple. iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, dan iPod Touch generasi kedua dan ketiga juga bisa di-upgrade ke software baru ini, namun tidak untuk iPhone versi pertama. iPhone 4.0 juga akan tersedia untuk iPad akhir tahun.

Netbook di Awal 2010 Penjualanya Mengalami Penurunan Drastis

Berita Gadget - Menurut informasi dari IDC, pertumbuhan netbook telah turun secara drastis dalam beberapa bulan awal tahun 2010 ini. Pengiriman netbook tetap naik 33,6 persen dibanding periode yang sama tahun lalu menjadi 4,8 juta unit, namun peningkatan ini sangat jauh berkurang dibandingkan kenaikan sebesar 872% yang terjadi setahun sebelumnya.



IDC percaya bahwa kebanyakan orang tertarik pada kategori ini hanya karena harganya, yang saat ini telah turun dari sekitar 500 dolar di awal kemunculan netbook menjadi sekitar 300 dolar saja di saat ini.

Belum ada berita terbaru dari para vendor, namun saat ini telah ada bocoran bahwa beberapa perusahaan besar telah bersiap menarik diri dari pasar ini seperti HP dan Dell yang dikabarkan akan meninggalkan pasar netbook 10 inci dan mengarah ke model layar yang lebih besar. Beberapa pembuat layar dari Korea dan Taiwan, seperti AU Optronics dan LG Display dikabarkan juga telah menghitung ulang produksi layar LCD untuk netbook ini karena perkiraan penjualan yang menurun baik di lokal Asia maupun Amerika.

Penurunan ini diperkirakan karena pasaran telah jenuh karena spesifikasi netbook tidak banyak berubah dari produk awalnya dengan layar 10 inci, prosesor Atom, RAM 1GB, dan hardisk. Rahasia di Balik Nintendo DS 3D (3DS)

Berita Gadget - Sharp melalui press releasenya mengumumkan bahwa mereka telah membuat layar LCD 2D/3D yang memungkinkan tampilan gambar 3 dimensi tanpa membutuhkan kacamata 3D. Dikatakan sebagai LCD dengan brightness tertinggi yang dapat berpindah antara 2D dan 3D.

LCD ini menggunakan sistem penghalang paralaks untuk dapat menampilkan gambar 3D. Penghalang ini berupa celah vertikal yang diaplikasikan ke LCD biasa, yang mengontrol arah cahaya menuju mata yang pada akhirnya menghasilkan sensasi 3D. Sensasi 3D dari LCD ini tidak seperti 3D umumnya yang membuat gambar seolah-olah keluar dari layar, namun menghasilkan sensasi kedalaman yg mengesankan.

Tim dari Akihabaranews yang mengikuti acara press release dari Sharp hari ini segera membeberkan pengalaman mereka. Teknologi ini dikatakan sangat mengesankan dan mereka tidak dapat menahan diri untuk mengatakan bahwa teknologi ini jauh lebih baik dari yang ditemukan oleh Panasonic dan Sony yang masih membutuhkan kacamata khusus. Namun Sharp mengatakan bahwa masih ada kekurangan dari produk ini, di mana pengguna harus menonton dari posisi/jarak tertentu untuk mendapatkan hasil terbaik.

Layar ini akan diproduksi masal mulai pertengahan 2010. Waktunya yang berdekatan dengan pengumuman dari Nintendo DS 3D (3DS)  membuat publik berpikir bahwa layar inilah rahasia dibalik layar 3D dari Nintendo DS yang diperkirakan akan muncul pada E3 Show tanggal 25 Juni 2010 mendatang di LA.

Berita Gadget - Rumor mengenai akan hadirnya iPhone OS 4.0 yang mendukung multitasking semakin kencang berhembus. Diberitakan oleh AppleInsider bahwa menurut sebuah sumber, sistem multitasking yang akan digunakan pada OS iPhone 4.0 ini akan bekerja seperti pada sistem Mac Expose.

iPhone hingga saat ini baru bisa melakukan multitasking secara terbatas. Hanya sedikit aplikasi inti yang mendukung fitur multitasking, sedangkan pada banyak kasus, pengguna harus mematikan suatu aplikasi jika ingin berpindah ke aplikasi lainnya.

Seperti diketahui, handset tersebut mendukung jaringan 3G HSDPA di seluruh dunia, prosesor generasi terbaru berkecepatan 624 MHz, 256 MB Flash memory, built-in GPS dan Wi-Fi, serta layar beresolusi tinggi. Smartphone BlackBerry Bold 9700 juga dibekali berbagai fitur multimedia dan komunikasi terkini dalam desain berkelas dan kompak.

Fitur-fitur multimedia tersebut di antaranya adalah media player terbaru, kamera 3.2-megapixel dengan  zoom, auto-focus dan auto-flash, video recording dan slot untuk kartu memori microSD/SDHC untuk menambah kapasitas penyimpanan.Tidak ketinggalan disediakan pula BlackBerry Media Sync untuk kemudahan sinkronisasi iTunes dan Windows Media Player Music dengan smartphone.

Seperti VIVAnews kutip dari keterangan resmi RIM, 1 April 2010, smartphone BlackBerry Bold 9700 akan tersedia lewat operator GSM antara lain Indosat, XL dan 3 (Three) dengan harga Rp 6.450.000 mulai April ini.
